Wings In Nature (WIN) is conducting a Backyard Birding Workshop that will provide hands-on experiences for everything one needs to know about establishing a bird-friendly backyard habitat. Local birding enthusiasts will make presentations on how best to attract, identify, and record local birds. The Backyard Birding Workshop will feature:
- Bird feeders and feeding practices
- Bird food targeted to specific birds
- Bird houses for local nesting birds
- Water features
- Native bird-friendly landscaping
- Bird identification: Audio and visual
- Backyard bird photography
The Workshop is being hosted by Lisa Bate, (Glacier National Park Biologist), and her husband Julian. They have created an effective, attractive, and affordable backyard birding habitat that will be opened to the public. Many species of birds are currently nurturing young birds in their multitude of nest boxes.
Professional wildlife photographer Dick Walker will present an informative slide show and share tips on photographing birds in the backyard. Additional birding enthusiasts will share their experiences and help attendees become familiar with setting up feeders, nest boxes, water features, landscaping, etc.
Those who are interested in attending the Backyard Birding Workshop are encouraged to call for more information and to register via the Wings In Nature hotline (406-249-3535). The specific location and directions will be provided to all registered participants. Registration is limited to 20.
