Riparian Wetlands: Birds and the River

Wetland and Riparian Trunk
Wetland and Riparian Trunk

(Grades 3 -5, or 7 – 12;  activities divided into “Younger Students” and “Older Students” sections.) Originally developed in partnership with Flathead Conservation District for educating on the importance of wetland and riparian areas for protecting or improving water quality, and their importance for wildlife and habitat. The trunk was expanded in 2016 to emphasize local riparian wetlands and river bottomland birds. Trunk contains background information for teachers, extensive regional and local maps,  bird song CD, a variety of hands-on activities including a developed unit of study with recommended activities, and culminates in a field trip to Flathead Audubon’s Owen Sowerwine Natural Area. (Standards LS1.A, LS1.B, LS1.C, LS2.A, LS2.B, LS2.C, LS4.C, PS3.D, ESS2.C, ESS3.C, ESS3.D)
